Gaelic Knot
Studio is the home-based workshop of mother and daughter designers Delaney and Skye Hansen located in the western
suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. The name was chosen in honor of their Celtic roots.
Many of
their items are created with a Celtic theme using products imported from the Celtic countries and often mixed with things
found in nature. Delaney and Skye also love the beauty of nature and enjoy utilizing items found in the natural
world when ever posible. All of their pieces are original designs and many are one-of-a-kind
or OOAK.
After a particularly tough and very snowy Michigan winter Delaney and her two daughters
left their home state in search of warmer temperatures and greener pastures. They settled for a while along the Gulf Coast
first in Texas, then Florida, seeking their niche in the world so to speak. All went well until Hurricane Ivan blew through
and destroyed their small backyard Stained Glass studio with a huge Live Oak tree!
After a valiant attempt at a
come back, first in the Florida Panhandle, then in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, Delaney and Skye returned to Michigan
to help care for Delaney's elderly mother and found Detroit's economy in worst shape than they ever dreamed possible.
Delaney's older daughter, Cerina, returned to the sunshine of the Florida Panhandle where she still
resides with the love of her life, Jack, and their five, beautiful children (3 boys and 2 girls) whom "Grandma"
and "Auntie" miss very much.
Sadly with there being very few jobs available in the Detroit area our ladies
had no choice but to be inventive and start from scratch once again. Gaelic Knot Studio is a bootstrap
business endeavor, started with little more than a lot optimism and a passion for crafting. Though an actual "bricks
and sticks" shop may be a long way off yet, we are slowly but surely returning to the local crafting scene of
Southeastern Michigan. In the summer and fall of 2009 we took our work to a couple of Farmer's Markets and hope to become
regulars at an Artisan Market in our area for 2010. If you are in the Oakland County area some of our hand-knotted
jewelry can be seen at The Celtic Corner downtown in the rather quaint village of Lake Orion. The owner of the shop,
is a wonderful lady who was actually born and raised in Ireland!

Delaney
has been involved with art and crafts all her life. She took sewing classes in junior high and high school, progressing all
the way to tayloring. After graduation she attended Center for Creative Studies of Detroit, Michigan back in
the early 70's and has suplimented her income though her art ever since. Having her own home-based business
is the realization of a dream for her. Delaney is also an aspiring novelist, screenwriter, writes articles for the internet
and apprears as an Extra for the Film Industry emerging in South East Michigan. She has over twelve years experience in the
Desktop Publishing field and enjoys being able to use her experience for her own business now. You may find Delaney networking
with friends and business associates as jdelaneyh on such places as FaceBook, BlogSpot, IndiePublic, Care2.com, LinkedIn,
Barbara Sher's web site and StartUpNation.

Skye started helping her mother prepare
for craft and art shows at the tender age of eight. Her interest in art compelled her to take all the art classes she
could and even join after school art clubs when possible. Over time she has studied techniques of numerous instructors
including her mom. Skye worked in the retail field for a number of years after graduating from high school which
gave her wonderful experience, but prefers concentrating on the more creative ventures of their own home-based business. She
is now an accomplished artist and designer in her own right.
